Singapore-based branding and space design firm, AND lab, is selected to design a new restaurant line for GAKU, a high-end Japanese sushi group in Beijing.
The restaurant is to be located in northeast of Beijing, occupying net floor area of 300 sq.m. The space is to be splitted into two: one for sushi and one for Japanese seafood BBQ.
Drawing philosophy from Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto, AND lab's chief designer, Clarence Chia, who is graduate of Tokyo Institute of Technology, created a winding path within the space and inserted tiny 'houses' into the space to recreate the street feels in Edo period. Experience is curated to always approach and appreciate these micro structures from 45 degree angle.
